Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche
Rinpoche dispels some Vajrayana myths in order to align our expectations.
Although the Buddha taught only one ultimate truth, because listeners of the teachings come from a wide variety of backgrounds, minds and elements, there are many different sutras. Here, Rinpoche presents the Thousand Hands Sutra, revisiting it for many reasons: one being because it’s very popular in Korea and another, because it is one of the most celebrated sutras of the Tang Dynasty in China. In this particular sutra, the Buddha talks about the dharani (mantra) of Avalokiteshvara (Bodhisattva of Great Compassion). Reading and/or saying this dharani outloud, you can accumulate a lot of merit. Rinpoche teaches on the meaning and character of this dharani, which in essence is its great compassion.
