Into the Mirror: A Buddhist Journey through Mind, Matter, and the Nature of Reality
Andy Karr, a long-time buddhist student, teacher and author of several dharma books, will be teaching a course here in Halifax on mahayana vision and the dawn of tantra. It will be based on his newest book, “Into the Mirror: A Buddhist Journey through Mind, Matter, and the Nature of Reality”.
The practice of Vajrayana is based firmly on the insights of the Mahayana, and especially on the insights of Yogacara. It is safe to say that the more you understand the Mahayana, the deeper your Vajrayana practice will be. When Vajrayana practice is not perfumed with the scent of shunyata, deity practice becomes an ordinary theistic ritual and Mahamudra and Dzogchen become just spacing out.
We will explore the way the two aspects of shunyata—emptiness and luminosity—are experienced and the way the unique Mahayana perspective translates into the profound practices of the Vajrayana.
It will be offered to the Halifax SI sangha, and to any others who are interested and it will be hybrid, on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83607546333?pwd=VlM1Wk92SldyVXdYVThQck9Rb0xGUT09
The course will be offered Monday nights, 7-8:30pm AST, January 27-February 24 for five weeks.
