Phenomena arise from their own particular causes and conditions. This seemingly simple truth is the foundation of the Buddha Dharma. In the Sutras, Buddha speaks of two types of Dependent origination: external and internal. This was his way of pointing out that all phenomena, external or internal, are devoid of a true nature and depend upon many other phenomena to arise. Contemplating on how oneself is completely dependent upon causes and conditions is like taking a good hard look at oneself. For those who know the path, this is the illumination needed to go forth.
