It’s depressing when we have a big picture of our lives. There’s such a strong urge to see things from a narrow angle. It feels nice to be numb even though we know it will make things more hollow.
Nevertheless, I appreciate the mahasattvas’ grand view. They see boundless oceans of blood, pus and tears they have crossed. They see limitless mountains of flesh and bones they have climbed. And they are familiar with infinite beings they have bumped into countless times in different forms and shapes. Yet they have never given up.
I am expected to say something today – a message for the new year. So, for what it’s worth, this is it – I’ve said it.
