Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche
Jordan Ranson of Manaaki Media interviews Rinpoche during his 2023 visit to New Zealand.
Blending Dharma with day-to-day life is difficult. On one hand, life’s purpose and function are very vague. Even though there has been a clear direction taught by great saints, philosophers and even economists, in the end it comes down to the individual to decipher their own life’s purpose. On the other hand, Buddhism is complicated because it doesn’t offer a clear direction for our worldly life. Buddha himself abandoned the most perfect life in pursuit of liberation. However, we can’t give up everything and become cave dwellers, so what do we do? It all comes down to attitude: living consciously, taking refuge in the Dharma and engaging in self-contemplation more often. This will eventually help us not to make a big deal out of things by understanding and appreciating impermanence.
