Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche
Rinpoche dispels some Vajrayana myths in order to align our expectations.
Myths are often thought to be subjective or not true, while the truth is objective. Many of the Buddha’s teachings present myths, such as samsara and nirvana, karma and reincarnation: the “expedient” teachings. “Direct” teachings, such as the Diamond Sutra and the Heart Sutra, present the truth of emptiness. The story of the life of the Buddha is myth, while the truth of the Buddha is that he is the nature of your mind. For a buddhist, myth and truth are in union and the inseparability of the two is magical.
