Children attending Rinpoche’s teachings at Sydney Town Hall
We welcome and value children’s attendance at SIA events. We recognise families are raising their children in the dharma, and know attending teachings with a dharma community is important. At the same time, we respect that many participants come without children, and attend expecting a quiet and conducive space to deepen their study and practice of the dharma. Working together, we create a supportive dharma community. To that end, we ask that you please familiarize yourself with community expectations, as set out below.
Supervise children closely, at all times. Children are to be in sight of, and within arm’s reach of, their parents
Take responsibility for your child’s safety; do not presume others will
Parents are to ensure their children do not disturb others
If children become disruptive, we ask that you swiftly supervise them outside, and give them a break from the teaching venue
Families will be seated next to a door so that they can easily vacate the room if needed
Children not of school age may attend without a ticket, provided they can remain on a parent’s lap
Children of school age are more likely to be settled if they have access to a chair next to their parent and so require a ticket
Take the opportunity to give your child a change of scene during break times. We know they need to move about and play. Please do this outside of the teaching venue
Speak with your children about the special environment that they are a part of and set out clear boundaries with regards to what is appropriate behaviour and why it is important
Please be realistic about your child’s needs: we want all participants to have healthy, happy memories of being in Rinpoche’s presence and hearing the dharma. Don’t ask more of them than they can cope with
Children can apply for sponsorship but approval is not guaranteed, being dependant on a range of factors including number of applicants and availability of funds.
