Meg Mottram

Programs Coordinator

In 1996, after several years practicing Ashtanga Yoga and exploring foundational practices of Buddhism, Meg was on retreat at a Theravadin forest monastery near Sydney. There, she discovered The Lion's Roar by Chögyam Trungpa, which inspired her to make aspirations to explore Vajrayana Buddhism and find a teacher. She travelled to India, met His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala, and spent a year there studying and volunteering at a nunnery. During that time, she journeyed to Spiti Valley with a Doctor Nun, delivering medicine to Tibetan monasteries - a profoundly impactful experience. In 1998, in Thailand, Meg took precepts at a Buddhist monastery and spent a year in study and practice, which included assisting with the coordination of monthly 10-day Vipassana retreats and teaching yoga.

Returning to Australia in 2001, Meg became a mother to a daughter, and in 2011, to a son, whom she has raised independently. She lives in Northern NSW, Australia, and works full-time and continues to raise her son, Tobin.

In 2008, Meg had the great fortune to meet Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche in Byron Bay and became his student. Since then, she has volunteered with Siddhartha’s Intent Australia (SIA), supporting Rinpoche’s teachings in Australia, SIA instructor activities, and serving as a chant leader for online practices. Meg joined the SIA Committee as Programs Coordinator in 2024.

She is deeply grateful for the opportunity to support Rinpoche’s dharma activities.
