In order to help we need confidence, the confidence of trusting in the basic goodness of human beings. But what do we mean by “truly” help? When we know that the helper, the person we’re trying to help and the help given are all illusion. This is not so easy but, as Shantideva said, “There is nothing we cannot get accustomed to.” Relatively, as non-sublime beings, what we can do is generate aspiration and, with good motivation, try our best. Aspiration, in turn, generates joy and having a humorous attitude towards our tools and methods makes us humble.
