The lapis lazuli stone is blue, like the Medicine Buddha and the sky: the largest natural blue thing in our world. We see the sky above us; it is both there and not there. This space is one of the greatest metaphors in Buddhism to express emptiness or shunyata, and understanding emptiness heals everything.
