A: Yes, Rinpoche will be giving a public talk in Christchurch. Click here for detailed information.

Q: Will Rinpoche also be teaching in Australia?
A: Yes – click here for detailed information about Rinpoche’s Teaching schedule in Australia.

Q: Will livestream of this event be offered for those who cannot attend?
A: It has been confirmed that some of the Teachings will be livestreamed (ie not the reading transmission or empowerment). Simultaneous interpretation into Mandarin and other languages will be made available for any livestream that occurs. We will confirm further details as we receive them, so please keep referring to the website and this FAQ for updates.

Travel advice and logistics

Q: I have questions on travel and other requirements
A: Please find on the Travel section and Health section of the website

Q: I would like to move to a chair if I feel like I can no longer sit on the floor, is that possible?
A: Unfortunately not, please select either chair or floor, it is not possible to select both due to seating limitations. There will be a notice board where people can swap seats with another participant.

Q: Will it be free seating or randomised seating?
A: You will be informed closer to the time, please check for updates here and in the news section.

Q: What is the purpose of the $108 refundable deposit and how will it work?
A: Due to the generosity of our sponsors, the running costs of the event have been covered by donations. This means that the tickets are free of charge. However, previous experience has shown that when no payment is required, many people will take up a ticket but not actually attend the event. In order to address this potential problem, we request everyone to pay a deposit of $108 that will be automatically refunded upon attendance. If you do not attend the event, you will forfeit your deposit. Please do not see this as a donation to the event. Donations are welcome and can be made via the website or the donation button on the ticketing platform.

Q: Is it possible to attend just for one or two days?
A: As per Rinpoche’s request, a limited number of day tickets will be available for people who wish to create a link with Longchenpa. They will be allocated each morning on a first come first serve basis. It is not possible to book day tickets.

Q: Are there scholarships available to cover personal travel and accomodation?
A: Sorry to say that there will not be any financial support to cover personal expenses for this program. Rinpoche said, “People should sacrifice a bit to receive teachings. The very idea that somebody would offer scholarships to receive teachings is fundamentally wrong.”
We quote this because Rinpoche said to tell people this, and to quote him.
Rinpoche went on to say that if people can’t afford this financially, emotionally, or they don’t have the time, that they should try their best but maybe they are not ready to receive the teaching.
The good news is that there are still many months to try and find some other support. We hope you can find a way to be there!

Q: I would like to help donate toward aspects of the event, how can I do this?
A: Thank you for your offer to donate, in our effort to keep costs down, we will be relying on the generosity of donors to make the event as auspicious as possible, especially in the area of further event costs. Please go to the donation section of the website to make your offering, and rest assured that it will be used in the area of most need. Any offered money remaining at the end of the event will be used for activities outlined in the Siddhartha’s Intent NZ charitable trust deed. There will be opportunity to donate towards the tsok offerings and the empowerment at a later date.

Childcare and Dharma Camp

Q: Can I bring my children into the venue?
A: Yes. The Wanaka Children & Youth dharma camp has closed its website registration, but you may enquire directly about registration at [email protected]. For more information, see the children’s registration page. Children in the dharma camp will not be allocated a seat inside the venue but may be admitted at selected times. If your child is not placed in the dharma camp or if they are under 4 years old, please ensure that you will remove the child from the venue immediately if they become disruptive.

Q: How can I find out more about how to practise the Tigle Gyachen?
A: Instructors will provide this information after the empowerment is given. See here further information on the Tigle Gyachen.

Q: What is a reading transmission?
A: A reading transmission or lung in Tibetan is when a teacher reads the entirety of a text to the student/s. This will occur in the Tibetan language. By receiving a reading transmission from a qualified lineage holder we make a link all the way back to the origin or founder of the teaching, creating the all-important cause and condition for the result of enlightenment. Thus hearing the sound of the words from the lips of the transmission bestower in real time confers the lineage blessings that make the reading of translations of texts such as Longchenpa’s Seven Treasuries fruitful. Any commentary or teachings which accompany the lung will be in English with Mandarin interpretation.

Q: Will there be practice texts for the event?
A: Yes, please check the news section of the website from time to time, as everyone will be notified there when a softcopy of any texts will be available.

Q: Are Longchenpa’s Seven Treasuries available in English translation?
A: Five of the Seven Treasuries have been translated in their entirety. (See further info here).

Q: I have mobility issues and need to be beside an aisle and may need assistance, is this possible?
A: Yes please let us know details of your issues and requirements when you register.

Q: I have a serious health issue, will there be any doctors or nurses I can refer to or confidentially inform of my condition in case of need?
A: Yes, we would encourage you to refer to our volunteer health team.
